Verified as an original by the Artist’s Estate, this is a Study for a full colour original oil painting that remains in the Family ownership.

The family estate authenticated the original drawing, saying:

I believe that the charcoal may date from about 1916. It may be a work that appeared in 1926 (February) - Goupil Gallery (Long Gallery). Robert Bevan Memorial Exhibition (cat. 4) On sale for 9 guineas. It appears in the ca.1926 Inventory in Tate Archive. 9 guineas (7 guineas had been crossed out). A cousin of mine owns/owned the oil painting.

Robert Polhill Bevan (5 August 1865 – 8 July 1925) was a British painter, draughtsman and lithographer. He was a founding member of the Camden Town Group, the London Group, and the Cumberland Market Group. More details can be found about him here at wikipedia.

He is an important British Artist who’s work has fetched in excess of £60,000 at Auction and is exhibited in the Tate Gallery.
